sharing a cd-rw drive

How do I get XP-Home to allow shared access to an attached external cd-rw drive? I think I covered all the bases with changes, flags, check boxes, etc.

Win98 says 'device not ready' and another XP machine says 'access denied'.

Any feedback will be appreciated

Are all the machines able to see each other and access each others files?
If those functions don't work, then it's a network configuration issue, if
they can do all these things that may narrow the possibilities a bit.
