Shared workbook under an addin

I'm considering sharing a workbook, but having done a little
research I'm concerned to find that users could record a new
macro and run it on the workbook. That leads me to wonder
if they would also be able to run an addin's menu routines as
well.

The sharing of the workbook should be used only to allow the
users to enter new data, or edit existing data.

In Excel 2000, and assuming two users, is there a way to do
something like this:

1) User A initiates the sharing of the workbook
2) User A's changes have priority over User B
3) User B cannot remove the share on the workbook
4) Recording and running of macros can be disabled whilst
the workbook is shared
5) The addin's menu items are disabled whilst the workbook
is shared

There are probably other issues I haven't considered.

Would be grateful for help, please.

Regards.

Hi Stuart,

Having done a bit more research myself I would advise against sharing
in the first place. Excel is unreliable with shared workbooks.
I have read too many messages that mention loss of data and corruption
of the shared files. If you need to share data, use Access or another
database program.

Not to mention that many functions of Excel are crippled with shared
workbooks. JKP's advice is sound.

Many thanks to you both.

Given that I've no knowledge of Access at all, and that my only
requirement is to find a way to allow several users to enter / edit
data simultaneously (ie when they are working to a serious
deadline).....how best to proceed?

I obviously need to return the file ultimately to Excel so that the
addin code can complete computation, presentation/formatting
and printing.

Where's the best place to look for this sort of solution please?

Regards.

If they work on separate data, have them do their work in their 'own'
copies of a workbook. Then later on combine them into one. If you use
the same structure, that shouldn't be too much work.
