Shared Printer Woes

Win 7 / 64 on my Desktop - Win 7 Starter on my Netbook.

I have 2 shared printers connected to my Desktop. Canon MP510 and HP
LaserJet 1020.

I am able to print to the Canon from my netbook...no problem , however , if
I try to print to the LaserJet , the print job doesn't activate.

The job shows up in the Print Manager , but it just 'sits there '.

I DID install the 32 bit version of the driver on the netbook BTW. No error
messages BTW.

I removed the Laserjet , browsed and found it again , reinstalled , same
problem.

Any suggestions appreciated , as always.

Thanks

Maybe not related, but what the Hell, it helped me.
Look up the registry mod for enabling IPV6 on the desktop.
Local Machine...services.

Says disbale, but you really want the DWORD (QWORD in 64 bit) to have a value of
0, that enables all IPV6

Delete the network connection on the laptop and run the network wizard again.

Many Thanks , but I don't believe IP v6 is the issue as my Canon works just
fine ( the printers are shared via Homegroup and it's functioning as
expected )

I found a similar query with the LaserJet that described exactly the same
problem and the solution was Compatibility Mode for XP / Vista ? Might give
that a try...
Does it make sense to install it ' normally ' using USB to see if it works
that way ? Just curious..

I dicked aropund with this on and off for a couple of months after my son
decided he needed W764bit. What a PITA W7 is. You'd expect it to work out of the
box with the old network, XP in my case.

The last time I did the regedit and went to reinstall the networked printer on
the W7 machine and I noticed there were 3 other "phantom printers" with similar
names that I could choose from. Apparently they were leftovers from prior
attempts to share the XP printer. Two of them were from mapping the machines
directly (//computername//printername) and one was from a regular install. I
haven't found a way to delete them, but I did select the right one and it works
fine now. Maybe you selected a "phantom". Some of my earlier attempts had
results like yours: Sent to a queu but nothing happened.

Did it ever print even a test page?
Are both printers USB?
Are they on the same USB Host Adapter or hub?

Mine is also a Laserjet, the cheapie P1006. The 32bit driver worked fine on the
W7/64 machine, but I had read of people having to download a 64 driver from
Vista.

I now offically HATE W7. Can't believe there isn't and upgraded path from XP. My
install wasn't too tough, but what about the average Joe? Why can't teh networks
get along? :)

I can't really complain too much , overall Win 7 64 has been very well
behaved , I have no problem sharing with my XP box.

I connected the netbook via USB , installed the driver , and it worked
perfectly ( so I know the driver is OK..) My Canon works perfectly as a
shared printer to the netbook. It's not ' important ' ...but I would like it
work if possible. If I wanted ' perfection ' I'd be all Mac by now !
Everyone knows they don't have any problems at all...right ? <G>
