Shared folders in AD

I have added an AD share using AD Users and Computers. The share
added is \\server\public. When I try to access the share by going to
\\server\public it works perfectly, but if I try to access it using
the AD domain name i.e. \\domain.com\public I get an error message
stating :

"Configuration information could not be read from the domain
controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has
been denied"

We have a Windows2000 AD in mixed mode and a child domain in native
mode and this is happening on both domains. Any suggestions as to
possible cause would be much appreciated.

Not for certain, but I believe you would have to set it up through IIS and
your internal DNS to publish it to a domain name.

What you need to do for this is to create a Domain DFS root that maps to the
share. Have a look in the Windows help for DFS and that should get you
started. Ask again here if you have any probs.
