Shared folders & Flags

My boss is going on vacation so he has shared his in box with me. I want to
flag critical messages for him so he can focus on them first, when he gets
back. However, I cannot use the flag feature. We have share permissions all
the way up to owner and it still is not working. Can you advise what I'm
missing?
