Shared files not accessible

I've installled Defender but now my shared files are not available. I'm using
Xp Pro on two wired computers and Fedora 4 on a wireless lan.

My wired computer is not accessible even if I now switch off all the options
in the defender tools section.

Under the previous beta 1 version of antispyware all worked fine.

Is there a way to get them talking together again?

I don't know of any reason why Windows Defender would interfere--did you
scan and remove anything?

The only change I've made was to add defender.

Despite removing defender now. The problem persists on one of my xp wired
computers, It shared files network path is not found.

I'm inclined to think that Windows Defender isn't the source of the issue,
given that removal hasn't fixed it. Will see what I can think of in terms
of troubleshooting steps, but I may not be able to revist this thread until
late tonight.

I think the thing to do might be to reestablish the shared file via one of
the wizards--now--lets see--what's the right wizard?

how about: Start, all programs accessories, communications, network
connection wizard. If you run that on the wired machine--be careful about
the choices--it should allow you to re-establish file and printer sharing as
desired.

I am having the same problem, since installing defender on two xp machines I
they cant ping each other through the wlan nor can they read shared files.
They can still see each other's shared disk labels but thats it. Also running
mcaffee av and firewall on both machines.

I have had this problem since 16th Dec. My log tells me that there has been much activity from MS. I have XP home (sp2) and Media Centre version running. Both OSs have differing security utils and do not easily allow running diags and changes to standards settings for how security is handled between network shares.

I know MS networking very well but I still found this helpful . . .

I have followed ALL of the steps above and I have made any impact on the issue. I have tried a roll back of the registry on the XP HOME machine and the MC version is a new Vaio with hotfixs applied.

Causes seem to be somewhere in the following:-

-Security update

-Defender

-IE 7

Is it possible that a worm can cause SMB packets to fail?

Any bright ideas?
