Shared Documents Folder Gone

Guest

I unsuccessfully tried to set up a Home Network to share a printer. Decided
not to but I must have deleted the Shared Document Folder. In it's place
under My computer, is my documents and documents. I am unable to access the
Documents folder (c:\documents and settings\All users\documents) I am
therefore unable to reinstall a program that I need as it is unable to access
that folder. Have done a system restore. It didn't solve the problem. Is
there anything I can do?

thanks in advance

Are you receiving an "Access Denied" when navigating to the folder? If you
are then change the permissions on the folder and you may need to take
ownership. Once you are able to access the folder then the Shared Documents
will appear in My Computer. You will need Administrator privileges to change
the folder permissions.

Thanks for the quick reply. Since I no longer have a Shared Folder and the
destop.ini file, would it be possible for me to import that folder from
another XP computer?

How did you delete the folder? The folder is a system protected folder and
should have not let you delete the folder. Log into the computer using the
built-in Administrator account via Safe Mode and see if the folder is
present. If the folder is present then you need to add/change the folder
permissions described in the KB article from my earlier post.

My shared documents folder is no longer that..it is just documents. That is
the folder I can't get into. My whole problem stems from the fact that every
folder I open(my documents, my music etc..) opens up the Adobe Acrobat
windows installer. I have to continuously push CANCEL then I get to the
folder. I am trying to get that to stop and it did when I removed Adobe, but
when I tried to reinstall it, i got the error message that it could not
install because it could not acess c:\documents and setting\all
users\documents..
I downloaded the windows install clean up utility and am going to remove the
installer for Adobe acrobat pro but have to have access to the document folder

Ramesh,

I have the 'Access is denied when opening the Shared Documents folder ?'
page referenced. I couldn't remember what the default permissions are for
that particular folder since I modified my permissions on that folder on few
machines. Saves me the time for a Virtual install of XP. Thanks.
