shared calendar user not going away

We had a user that shared their calendar with another employee. The employee
that the calendar was shared with has left our company. We have deleted that
user from AD. but when a calendar invite is sent to the shared user's
calendar the sender gets a declined invite from the user we have deleted from
AD. When we look in their outlook we don't see the deleted user listed. About
a year ago we spoke with MS and they had us move the mailbox from serverA to
serverB removing all corrupt data from it. this issue appeared to go away (no
one reported getting a declined invite) until last week when someone sent
this person a calendar invite and there was a declined email. Where is this
person's name hiding in outlook? When this issue first came up it was with an
exchange 2003. We have since decommissioned the 2003 server and are using
2007.

since we removed the person's account before removing them from the calendar.
where are they in AD?

The information is stored in the AD. When someone has delegate access to a
mailbox, you need to remove the delegate before deleting the mailbox.
