Shared Borders Problem

I am using Frontpage 2000. Very recently, I updated a shared border. The
save took forever, prompted me to overwrite the existing shared border, then
updated only some of the pages using shared border.

Here what happens:
1. I alter a left shared border and save.
2. Hourglass for approx 5 - 7 minutes, then this error
3. Server was unable to handle your request -- details say: "500 Internal
Server Error
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or
misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, (e-mail address removed) and
inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request."
4. I click OK and am returned to the page.
5. This happens each time I try to save.
6. If I close Frontpage, it prompts me to save top border (even if I didn't
alter it)
7. I say yes.
8. Same thing happens again.
9. Usually have to force quit FP 2000
10. The new border shows up on some, but not all of the pages using it
(even after refresh).
When I open FP, the new border shows up on all pages (but not on the web).
The only solution I have found so far is to open each page that is acting
funky, make a small edit to the body of the page, and save. Then the
correct Shared border appears (but opening each page and editing it
individually is NOT why I want shared borders.

All extensions otherwise working normally. New pages post with correct
border

Thanks in advance for any help.

Either your shared border page has some malformed html (validate the code),
or more likely your server FP META files are corrupt
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files, Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and / or
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden web cache files (*.web )
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Then File Open Web in FP try reopening the shared border page and resaving it, then running a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
