Shared Borders (again!)

R

Richard

| For two weeks now I have been struggling to solve the
| problem: I have been posting this since 19th Sept. but
no-| one has come up with any sensible suggestion. I am
using| FP2000, OS Windows ME.
| 1. Borders do not publish. This was the first problem.
| Attempted to resolve by editing & resetting on FP both in
| page & HTML views....but:
| 2. I add border details; either content disappears or
| border itself does not remain after saving.
| 3. I default to 'apply all pages', save. Check later &
| default returns to 'current page only'. I do virus
| check, "detect & repair", check that <body> tags all
| exist, clean out MyWebs folder of all old, non-essential
| files (which fixes the problem of Hyperlink edit being
| disabled), remove all existing borders and start afresh
| with new borders left & top. Unfortunately the bottom
| border, whilst not perfect, was removed but still appears
| on the published site.
| 4. I copy whole site to new web. Content of shared border
| does not copy on any pages; and border itself does not
| feature on some pages:
|
eg. :http://www.mainlychairs.co.nz/classic_dining_chair_ran
| ge%20master.htm
| Original version:<meta name="Microsoft Border"
| content="tl, default">
| </head>
| Copied version:<meta name="Microsoft Border"
| content="none, default">
| </head>
| The change from 'tl' to 'none' was not edited in. It
| happened in the copying!
|
| My method of applying borders is: format/shared
border/all
| pages, top, left, OK/save. I then add content (originally
| tables but removed them & added text only)/save.
|
| I am totally frustrated by the huge timewasting &
| inability to edit or post updates to site so please, can
| someone help.

Do you have a web open, and not just a page, when you apply shared borders?

You can not just copy a web from one location to another, you must first open the web, and then
publish the web to another location in order to maintain themes and shared border and other FP
run-time functionality.

I'm not sure if this will help, but if you are publishing to an Apache
server, remove the spaces in your page names.
Change: http://www.mainlychairs.co.nz/classic_dining_chair_rage master.htm
To: http://www.mainlychairs.co.nz/classic_dining_chair_range_master.htm
Also, try editing your site live on the server instead of publishing it. I
know, people have no problems doing it local and publishing, but this has
never been the case for me (I've been using FP since Office 97). I always
had better success working live on the server. The problems I had with
publishing are too many to mention, but included server timeouts, lost data
during the upload, pages not looking the same when they got to the server,
shared borders not making it there.........etc.........
