Share login question

I have a couple of Vista Pc's and a laptop running Xp Media Centre.

If I go to a share from my PC (Vista) from the Xp laptop it just
connects fine. If I go to the same share from the other Vista PC then
it always asks me for a username and password?

How can I stop the Vista box needing this login?

Aha never thought of that! So if I create an account on the other
Vista PC with the same username/password on the box demanding a
username/password that will sort it?

Out of interest why does the Xp box connect without any sort of
prompt?

I am in a hurry now, so I cannot elaborate plus I am more in practical side
than theory. I just want to acknowledge that I saw your question. Perhaps
later tonight I will be able to be more specific when get home.

If this is the case, that my only explanation is that Vista has a much more
advanced and stringent security than XP. I do not know if XP historically
had such a setting. What I know is that when I tried to connect from my XP
to Win2K, the Win2K computer always demanded providing an adm name and PW.

I haven't tried to connect XP to Visa (or vice versa) because I am out of XP
for good but it seems that when I tried to connect to Win2K from Vista I get
exactly the same window with two blank textboxes: name and PW, as I get when
I used to try to connect XP==>Win2K

It is also my impression that security in Win2K is more stringent than in
XP. XP was created historically on the assumption that many functions of
Win2K should be streamlined because Win2K took unreasonably long time to
boot and even executing applications I think took much longer.

I think the experience showed that it was a mistake in the part where
security is concerned.

I went today to my XP partition since I still have some legacy software in
there and I need to resolve a few issues. Having monitored posts in this NG
for about 7 weeks now I became much more aware of security issues. A lot of
people around here badmouth Vista and exalt XP. They are all malware writers
making a living in this dark business. I immediately became clear to me why
they all mourn XP and try to tell everyone to back to that OS.

I checked Users and groups and was horrified. There was a preset Internet
Guest account accessible to everyone set as default. It had all attributes
to be a gateway to my XP partition when I worked on it. Before that I was
lackadaisical about such issues and counted on CA antivirus, etc. Now the
first thing I did was to make this account inactive. I also made a number of
other accounts inactive.

So, this is an example. I may consider myself not a super experienced
software developer but I do have some credits to my name and I allowed this
to happen to my computer! Something like this is impossible in Vista and
they are all crying wolf.
