Share Internet Connection Error

Michelle

I want a second computer (which uses XP) to be able to connect to my
internet connection. I have a Netgear wireless Router, and a security
enabled wireless network.

The other PC can connect to the wireless network, but cannot see the
internet.

In Vista's Network Sharing Centrethere is a properties box which deals with
Internet Connection Sharing. But when I try to tick the 'Allow other users
to connect through this computer's internet connection' box and click OK, I
get a messagebox come upo telling me that 'An error occured while internet
connection was being enabled'.

Am I doing this in the right place? if so what else do I need to do to
enable the internet on the other machine? Any ideas...?

Thanks

M

No settings are necessary. The router does it all.
The Internet Modem plugs into the Internet socket (rj-45 port) marked for
that.
Use a wired connection (not 'crossover' or wireless) cable to connect one
machine.
From that machine, open the router software. (Usually, in the browser,
http://192.168.0.1 )
Use the WAN settings of the router configuration to find the 'MAC address'
of the Internet modem, and acquire the Internet connection.
Open the router settings for Wireless, and enable it (set NO SSID)
Save the router settings, and exit.
(You should also be sure the IE browser Options have 'never dial a
connection' dotted in IE, tools menu, options, Connection tab)
Now that the router is configured, both machines should see a wireless point
to connect to.
