I just received the following email from a manager:

"We need to do some research on creating shareable Word and Excel
documents. How does it work?
What are the pros and cons?"

The person who sent this message is gone for the weekend, so I can't get any
more information at the moment. I think that he wants to have documents on
the network that can be opened and edited by a number of people
simultaneously. As he asks, how does this work, and what are the pros and
cons?

Word documents cannot be shared this way. They can be open for editing by
only one user at a time.

I thought that was the case, but honestly, I don't share documents all that
often, so I wasn't sure. I do know that if another user has a document open
that a message will come up if I try to open it, but I thought that maybe
there was a way make the document editable to more than one person at a
time. I guess not. Thanks for the information.
