SFS Problem

When I go into Windows explorer and disable Simple File Sharing, when I
restart it is enabled again.

I am trying to push out some AV updates and cannot because SFS is enabled on
all workstations on our LAN.

1, Is there a setting in group policy to allow me to globaly turn off SFS?

2, When it keeps enabling itself, why is this happening? I AM running group
policy on all workstations so wondering if a setting is coming from there?

Thanks

It should be disabled already if your computers are in an Active Directory
domain. Anyhow you can use Group Policy to manage the security option for
network access: sharing and security model for local accounts to be
"classic". The setting is found in computer configuration\Windows
settings\security settings\local policies\security options and also is shown
in Local Security Policy.

Hi Steve

The workstations arn't in Active Directory, they are in EDirectory (Novell)
so think they are in a workgroup.
The group policy - network access: sharing and security model for local
accounts .... is set to "classic".

I have got around the problem now by pushing out a reg key to all workstations

HKLM\system\current control set\lsa\forceguest and set Dword to 0

But thanks for the reply

Cool. That basically does the same thing as setting Local Security Policy to
classic though interesting that classic did not seem to work as expected.
Glad you got it resolved.
