I want to use sfc to can repair windows.

I tried yesterday but found the following problem.

Last month I installed a new additional hard disk and also a cd-rw. Now the
drive letters are changed.

Sfc command do not find the path to the cd-rom. So I can not use it.

Please advice.

Which drive letters are changed? The drive letter of the system drive?

The CD ROM's drive letter is irrelevant for sfc.exe. This
program is supposed to reside in c:\windows\system32.
Furthermore, your path is must include c:\windows\system32.
Do this:

- Click Start / Run
- Type cmd {OK}
- Type these commands:
path > c:\test.txt
set system >> c:\test.txt
dir /s "%SystemRoot%\sf*.*" >> c:\test.txt
notepad c:\test.txt

Now cut and paste the text you see into your reply.

Step #2 at the link below will tell you how to change the "path" sfc looks
for.

Open the registry editor: Start | Run | Regedit | Ok. Navigate to this
key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

In the right pane modify the value: SourcePath to reflect the changed CD
drive letter. Right click on the value and choose Modify.

It's always best to backup the registry before making changes. A good
tool for this is ERUNT. See these links:

Johnny, you will get that message if you have installed Updates SP1 or
SP2. Those updates made significant changes to your system files that the
original WinXP CD is outdated. If this is not the case then maybe you can
pull the white power
connector to both the new hard drive and cd-rw temporarily. This will
revert to the older configuration and maybe the
path to the cd-rom will be found.
