sfc /scannow

Every time I boot my computer the sfc /scannow program starts to run.
Usually I just cancel but was wondering if it should run every day ? If not
how do I stop it from starting up ? Thanks Gimpy

Thanks peter but its not listed?

Did you try 'sfc /revert' as wrote ?

Or 'sfc /scanonce' ? It seems somebody ran 'sfc /scanboot' on your
computer.

Open command prompt&type 'sfc /?' to get more details.

That's OK when you invoke 'sfc /?'. But try 'sfc / revert' or 'sfc
scanonce' at the command prompt or directly thru START>RUN. I was
always using 'sfc /scanonce' and it was OK, the scan has been made just
once.

Why did you (or somebody else) call the 'sfc' at the first time at all?

lthe next restart..)

Have you tried 'sfc /scannow' in the START>RUN? The scan should then
start immediately without restart (you could be asked to insert the
Windows CD).

Yes, that way it does start & does ask for the Windows CD

And the problem remains? Hmm... I couldn't tell what's up :-/ At what
moment *exactly* does sfc start to scan the files after rebooting the
computer (before tray icons show, during loading of the tray icons,
after, ...)?

If you have 'Startup Control Panel' inside of the Windows Control
Panel, maybe you should recheck all of the startup items. You have to
check the following tabs:

- Startup (user)
- Startup (common)
- HKLM/Run
- HKCU/Run
- Run Once (in case some process sets the key again and again)

Startup Monitor is a good Windows add-on to 'catch' the newly added
startup items. But it's too late now I guess.

You could also try to look for something suspicious among the
'services' (msconfig --> services). Although I really don't know if sfc
could be run as a service :-/

Maybe you could even try to search for the 'sfc' string thru the
registry (regedt32>search)...

the sfc program did not show up ? Downloaded some Windows updates while ago
& had to reboot & once again the sfc program didn't start up ? Not sure now
if it has quit loading or this is just temporary Time will tell but in the
meantime I do thank you Chupo for sticking with me on this.... Gimpy

You're welcome. I'm glad everything is back to normal :) However, I'm
wondering what was the matter :-/
