sfc /scannow shows one file missing

I'm missing regtrace.exe. its not in l386, sys32 or
dllcache. no CD factory install. does anyone know where I
can get one? doesnt have to be exact version, XP fixes them

It's not part of XP. If you think XP can fix it (even though your subject says it can't) let XP fix it.

My bad. Why would my XP sfc say I'm missing a critical
system file? I found it in IMS.CAB in i386, thanks for the
links.

It looks to be upgrading other products if it upgrades XP. I guess that if one had the NT4 option pack or Visual Studio installed it will upgrade that using these files.
