SFC /SCANNOW questions.

Fujitsu laptop. All updates in place.

When I Start>Run> Winver, info states that I have Windows XP Media Center
Edition.
When I Start>Run> MSINFO32, info states that I have Microsoft Windows XP
Professional.
So, question is do I really have Windows XP Professional?

The reason I ask is that I ran SFC /scannow ( System File Checker ) 3 days
ago, and as it was almost finished it stated that "Files that are required
for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache". Insert your
Windows XP Professional CD2 now.

I don't have a Windows XP Professional cd at all, let alone a CD2.
The only cd's that came with the computer are to restore the computer back
to the original state. Is there a way to find out what DLL files need to be
replaced, and then, where would I go to find these files?

I did have another minor problem, and called Fujitsu tech support, and it
took 4 calls to them, over several days to finally get an answer which
solved the issue.
I called 3 days ago about the above issue, and was told that they would have
someone call me back in "not over 1 hour", no call, so I called again, was
told the same thing. Will try again, and again, but hoped someone could shed
some light on the problem.

Thank you.

XP MCE is a based on XP Pro with the addition of the media center features
and without the ability to join a domain except at the time the OS is
installed so what you are seeing is normal.

SFC /scannow will not work with a recovery CD.

Thanks Rock, if I could find someone with the OEM cd would that work if it
had the I386 folder on it? In reading information at the link you provided
below, it states that if I had the I386 folder in my C:\ (root) folder, then
made a few adjustments to the registry, SFC would know where to go to update
these DLL files.
Fujitsu Tech did email me back, and said that I would have to have an OEM cd
to update those files needed. Does that make sence?
