"SFC /Scannow" Not Working

The sfc /scannow command will not work. I was trying to trouble-shoot some
problems by restoring the original files but I keep getting an error
indicating I have the wrong Windows CD for my computer. Since this is the
only WinXP machine I have...I know it's the correct disk...it's worked
before.

If my hardware has changed significantly...so that I need to re-activate
Windows...would that cause this to happen? I've gotten no message
indicating I need to reactivate, but I have change the hardware a few
times...network cards, USB devices, video card.

Thanks,
Dave Lamar

If you are familiar with the registry, and how to restore it in case of
Windows failure to load, search it for the term "sourcepath" (no quotes).

Verify that the path points to the drive where the XP CD was installed.
On this PC that is, simply, H:\

Ignore sourcepath entries that reference specific programs, or XP Service
Packs.

Sfc is run from a command prompt, not the run command?
