Create (burn) a Windows CD and incorporate SP2 into it, this is called
slipstreaming, as in "slipstream SP2" to your Windows XP cd.

Alternatively, you can just change the path to the location of the setup
files by editing the registry.

You are prompted to insert a Windows XP SP2 CD when you try to run the
System File Checker tool on a Windows XP SP2-based computer

Jeez, don't bother messing with the slipstreaming crap; too many of them
bomb out when they're really needed as it's very hard to verify that they
work right and it takes hours to put together. And besides you still need
to do the following step whether you slipstream or not:

Go to the MS site or any of the many sites that have it, and download SP2.
It's huge, so be prepared.
Or, it's available at many places for a nominal fee. Or borrow a copy
from a friend, whatever. Any copy of SP2 will work as long as it's a
complete copy.

I'm afraid there's no other way; you have to have the SP2 CD to do what you
want. Fortunately it's easy to get.

I thought there was a way to skip that step until you get SP2, but I might
be wrong; been a long time.

Seem to be misuderstood here I am using an XP SP2 slipstreamed CD. Its the
fact it's asking for a XP 'Professional' CD when Home is installed that is
throwing a spanner in the works.

Ahh, I did misunderstand. No offense, but that's exactly the problem with
slipstreamed disks: most never get checked to see if they work until
they're needed and then they flop. If that's the case here, you're SOL I'm
afraid; the slipstream isn't working as you expected and apparently wasn't
made for what you want, or is borked.

Sounds like you'll have to get hold of an honest, licensed version of XP to
me. You do have that, right?
Next slipstream you make, TEST IT in a VM before you have to depend on
it. Better yet go get an imager and get with the rest of the world.
