Pete A

I'm having a problem running SFC /scannow.
I installed XP Pro with a slipstreamed SP2 CD.
I have copied the i386 folder from the slipstreamed CD to my D: (hard
drive).
When I run SFC /scannow, it tells me I have the wrong CD.
I have even tried my original XP Pro pre-sp1 CD.
I have tried starting SFC AFTER loading the slipstreamed SP2 CD.
The only way I see around the error is to cancel the files SFC
is looking for.
My registry looks like this:
CDInstall 0
ServicePackCachePath c:\windows\system32\dllcache
Service PackSourcePath D:\ (hard drive, not CD)
SourcePath D:\ (hard drive, not CD)

I have no C:\windows\ServicePackFiles folder because I installed
with the slipstreamed SP2 CD.

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Pete

Hi,

Have you changed these strings in both of these keys in the registry?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Hi Rick,
All I see in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
that looks relevant is: PathName C:\windows
SystemRoot C:\windows
Should I change PathName to D:\??

Thanks,
Pete

Hi,

No, that second key should be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\setup

and if they don't exist add the same sourcepath strings.

Rick,
I added these keys to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\setup:
Service PackSourcePath D:\
SourcePath D:\
I rebooted and ran SFC again -- got the same "Wrong CD" message.

Thanks,
Pete

I tried "Method 2" in the KB article you suggested.
("Method 1" I had already tried and didn't work.)
Although the procedure was a little different, I still couldn't get past the
"Wrong CD".
This time SFC first asked for the XP SP2 CD which was already in my CD
drive.
I clicked 'Retry' and it accepted the CD. Then it asked for the XP CD which
I thought
was my original pre-sp1 CD. I clicked 'Retry' before I switched CD's but it
would not
accept either one and I had to 'Cancel'.
Thanks,
Pete
