I typed SFC in the run command and I got a momentary flash of a DOS screen
and nothing else.

Can someone please tell me how to get it working again or am I doing
something wrong.

Thank you

Hi James,

Go to Start/Run/CMD then type in: sfc /scannow
Windows File Protection should be blinking and running in your taskbar if it
didn't pop up.

Thanks Kelly. I did that and now it asks for my WinXPPro SP1 disk and I do
not have such a disk. I installed the SP1 upgrade from a magazine disk so I
only have my original WinXPPro Corporate disk which it will not accept. Is
there a way around this ?

Hmm James, Corporate may play a part here. If not:

Put the regular CD in first, then exit its Autorun, then run the
SFC. It should then find the SP1 files in the Windows\ServicepackFiles
folder, and go on from there to the versions on the regular CD.

If not, check your settings here and change them to reflect:
Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup.

In the right pane, change the value of ServicePackSourcePath for those
having SP1 on CD and wanting to route it separately.
