I have a laptop which is brand new and has windows vista Home premium on. I
have found that i have been unable to load a number of web sites. However i
can easily load them using XP with no problem across the same wireless
network connection.

one of the links includes
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...rlz=1T4GGLJ_en-GBGB212GB212&q=cct+share+price

it simply spends ages trying to download the page, saying its waiting for
the site. Yet when loaded in a xp computer it download instantly.

another extreammly bizzar one is that the googles 'see before you die' add
picture also fails to load.
http://www.seebeforeyoudie.net/add-image.php?place_id=2031

Can anyone provide an explanation as to what is blocking this?

i have downloaded firefox so its not IE.

Thanks
Helen

ive tried all of your suggestions but it still fails to download.

its just so unexplainable why a site like this
http://www.iii.co.uk/
could possibly fail to load ever! no matter what time or day of the week.

it just is crazy?

Hi,
I didn't see any major problems with either page. Try clearing the Temporary
Internet Files and restarting the computer. Then, if necessary, try powering
down the router and modem for a couple of minutes.

Hope this helps,
Don

Check your security center and see if you have two firewalls running. I had
the same problem, when I had both Windows and McAfee's firewalls running at
the same time. Turning off either one solves the problem for me.

Are you behind a router? If so, it may require a firmware upgrade, as some
routers have issues with the new TCP/IP stack in Vista.

This may help overcome browsing issues in the meantime:

- Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter
- Restart your computer

The computer came with Nortan anti virus from PC world but i have uninstalled
it, because personally i dont like it. Under the firewall settings i have
checked and only one firewall is on and thats windows. but altho i have
uninstalled nortan you can still see it there but it does say its off. so im
guessing it is. i turned the windows firewall off to test it and the page
loaded eventually but so unbelievably slowly. I then tried to turn it back
on and again it didnt work. so i looked at the exceptions and ticked a few
more obviouly ok ones and it now loads but again extreamly slowly. It cannot
be the internet connection because other pcs in the house run the same web
site 10 times as fast?

There may be a later revision to the firmware (software permanently stored)
in the router.
You may be able to obtain this from the router manufacturer and then
download it to the router using whatever procedure the router manufactuer
provides. (Assuming the router is under your control)

Strange problem though! The Google site loads almost instantly for me, the
others are a little slower.

Just a thought...
Almost always when I set up a new OS I have an internet problem like this.
Usually it is solved by IE Properties under "Temp.Internet Files/Settings"
to move the slider to the MAX.
