Several functions missing or locking up

Hi
I have several functions with IE6 and Outlook that are causing lockups

-IE6, Help->About... freezes IE6 & need Task Manager to close program
-IE6, Edit->Find... the find box does not open
-IE6, Cannot delete any mail from the Junk folder in Hotmail, tried
'empty' and 'delete'... freezes IE6 & need Task Manager to close window

-Outlook 2003, Insert->Picture in new HTML email... freezes Outlook and
requires Task Manager to close program

All problems seem to have happened at one time and must have a common
denominator but what?
