Ive been trying to help a friend fix his dell computer
after it started blue screening alot. He called Dell and
they told him to format and reinstall windows. Now after
he did that it wont take the install. I personally have
formatted the drive 3 times trying different installation
methods but I always get the same thing which when it
starts to copy files for the second time, it halts on a
file and says setup could not copy this file, and do you
want to escape setup try again or ignore file.
Ive tried them all and ignoreing only leads to other
files it cannot copy, it does it over and over on every
file after that. We also tried to install windows 98 and
it does the same thing. Dell sent him another
installation disk and we get the same thing. I did a
scandisk and chkdsk and have found no errors. Dell wont
really help him because we are military and in Honduras
and every time he calls they want him to start over and
try and reinstall windows again, or send him another
disk, or have him on hold seeing if windows can run
without x particular file. By this time our daily phone
time is used up. They have basically refused to give him
a return authorization number and have even threatened
him that his warranty is void because he is out of the
country. Anyone have any ideas would be appreciated. Its
a new and odd problem to me.
