Setup Will Not Copy Files

Everytime I try to upgrade/install XP Professional, it gets stuck on the part
where it tries to copy files from disk to hard drive. Says it can't copy
file, retry, skip, if skip windows Xp may not work properly etc. Check that
the disk is in the disk drive etc. It just will not copy the files at all
from my disk. Please help me upgrade to XP from 98.

Examine the Windows XP CD and make sure it is absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean it.
