Setup KMS on 2K8

N

Nigel Tufnel

I've looked over the documentation pretty carefully. Not working out for me.

I enter "cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk (insert KMS here) from
and elevated cmd prompt.

I get

Run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F015' to display the error text.
Error: 0xC004F015

not a lot of hits when I resaerch this

SLS is reporting that the license is not installed.(after running the
command above)

Yes the server is still on a demo license, do I need to install the KMS
first? What am I doing wrong.

TIA

I suspect you are using a Product Key from the wrong Product Key Group.

Look carefully at page 5 of the document "
Volume Activation 2 0 "Changes for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista
SP1.doc"

Based on this table, if your designated KMS server is a Windows Server 2008
Standard edition, you need either a KMS_B, or a KMS_C type key.

In case your server is the Web Server edition you could also use a KMS_A
key.

If your current key is a KMS (old) type Key, you need to use either Vista or
Server 2003 as the KMS host.

Bear in mind that you can install only one KMS key per KMS server.
