Hi,
I've had windows XP installed on my desktop for a long time, but then it
stopped connecting to the internet.

To fix this I inserted the installation disk and wanted to reinstall or fix
the OS. However, half way through i got a question whether I would like to
abort the setup process (or something the like). I was wondering if I would
overwrite the entire previous setup and decided to abort. This was a big
mistake.

The installation process is now stuck in a loop. If I turn on the computer
the OS is trying to start, then I get a blue screen telling me "Setup is
being restarted..." and the computer restarts. Nothing I do seem to change
this behavior.

Preferably I would like to run a "repair" of the OS, but now I would also be
happy if I could just install XP at all!

You must have tried the reapir or reinstall in IE,to do either, install xp cd,
exit the info page, restart computer, boot to xp cd,then select-repair this
copy of xp,or do a complete new install (delete partition, create one). From
where youre at now, boot to xp cd,select either,i would reinstall complete.

Hi,
thanks, thats exactly what I have in mind, but...
I'm not allowed to give any input at all!
There is no pause in the program where I am asked what I'd like to do. It
just boots up, prints "Setup is being restarted...", spins up the CD drive
and restarts etc.etc.etc.
The only thing I have the option to do is to press Del to enter into Setup.
I've set First Boot Device to Floppy, 2nd to HDD-0, 3rd to CDROM (and I've
experimented with putting CDROM first). Windows XP installation disk is in
the CDROM.

What I am wondering if I can make any settings in CMOS Setup Utility to
improve the situation, or possibly put another bootable disk in the CDROM
that can remedy the situation. Any other options?

Is there really no good solution to this problem? I've looked through this
forum, and there seems a few others having similar problems.

I have access to dos, so I have been wondering if it is possible for me to
manually edit the installation settings to stop this endless loop, but I do
not know what to edit or which files are controlling the installation process.
