I wanted to replace my old drive with a larger capacity one.

I've decided to do a clena install unto a new drive. My CD is not
bootable. So I downloaded a file to make a set of 6 setup floppy
disks.

My question is why one needs 6 disks. I have also installed Mandrake
10 linux onto the same computer. This OS has a single floppy disk
which in turn starts the installation CD.

I suppose Linux people are smarter requiring only one boot floppy disk
instead of 6. Am I wong on this?

A. Yes. Windows XP is far more sophisticated then Linux.

*All* legitimate WinXP installation CDs are bootable.

I guess that is a possibility, but, is so, that raises another serious
issue. If the OP's PC is so old (pre-1996-ish?) that it lacks the
capability of booting from the CD, then it's very unlikely that WinXP
will install and run on it, anyway.
