Setting up Windows XP internet firewall

I have attempted to switch on the firewall, following the procedure given in the help menue. How ever I can get no further than Network Tasks When I attempt to open the Change setting of this connection, nothing happens. Can any one help.

Regsvr32 netshell.dll
and
Regsvr32 ole32.dll
