Operating system should/must be Master drive on Primary IDE (IDE1)
Depending on just where the second drive installs in the computer case
(data cable length etc), the data drive can either be Slave drive on
the Primary IDE (IDE1) or the Master drive on the Secondary IDE
(IDE2).
Note that if the data hard drive is connected as the Slave drive on
the Primary IDE then the Operating System drive may require a jumper
configuration change as some hard drive brands use a different jumper
setting for "master with slave hard drive present" and for "stand
alone master drive". Also note that for these drives a CD/DVD
connected as slave does not count as "slave present" for the hard
drive jumper setting.
The DVD drives can be connected to use whatever connections are not
used by the hard drives - eg Master and Slave on the Secondary IDE if
both hard drives are IDE1; or one as slave on IDE1 and the other as
slave on IDE2 if the hard drives are connected as master drives on
IDE1 and IDE2 respectively.
