Setting up Remote VNC help

M

masterdennis

Hello all,

Right now I just installed VNC on my homenetwork (client UltraVNC) with
2 computers under a belkin pre-n router. I can connect correctly
within the network by the Ip i setup thru my router 192.168.x.x.
However, if I want to connect from another network to my coomputer
with the vnc server, I know I need to get a dynamic DNS adress? I
signed up for one thry dyndns.org and got one. It automatically filled
in my ip adress and gave me an adress xxx.selfip.org. However, when I
enter this into the ultravnc server box from my viewer computer, it
says it cant connect.
What am I doing wrong

and also: since its a network, both computer have the same ip. will it
know to automatically connect to the computer with the server running?

thanks a bunch.

You need to forward TCP Port 5900 through the router to the private static
LAN IP of the UltraVNC server PC. Call from a remote location using the
dydns fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that you setup. If you test over
your local LAN use the private static LAN IP of the UltraVNC server PC. It
is *NOT* a valid test to call from another local PC using the FQDN.
