Setting Up Remote Desktop

S

Steven

I'm trying to set up a remote desktop of my Vaio Laptop from my Gateway
Tablet PC.
They're both home computers, with absolutely nothing having to do with
business involved.
They're both connected to a simple non-wireless D-Link Router, and they can
see each other when I open up "View computers and devices" in the Network and
Sharing Center.
The Vaio is named STEVENHOULE-PC and has Vista Ultimate on it (I just
recently upgraded from Premium).
The primary user on the Vaio is called "Steven Houle".
The Gateway tablet is named STEVEN-TABLETPC and has Vista Premium on it.
The primary user on the Gateway is called "Steven Houle".
Neither primary users have passwords.
Neither computer is part of a domain (I don't even know what that is.)
I'm trying to set a remote desktop, and I have gotten as far as allowing
Remote Desktop to get through the firewalls on both computers.
The problem is that I don't know what to do next.
When I'm on my Vaio, I'm trying to do the next step of adding users to it by
going to Remote Settings in System, clicking on Select Users, then clicking
Add, and then clicking location.
The problem is that STEVEN-TABLETPC does not appear in the list of
locations, only STEVENHOULE-PC does, so I don't know how to add the user on
my tablet pc to the list of accepted users for remote desktop. How do I make
STEVEN-TABLETPC appear in the list of locations for user accounts?

At the point I'm at right now, whenever both my computers are connected to
the router, I open up remote desktop in my tablet pc, type in STEVENHOULE-PC
for the computer name, and then click Connect.
A dialog box then pops up asking me for my credentials, so I type in "Steven
Houle" for the user name and leave the password text box empty. Beneath the
username and password boxes, it says this: "Domain: STEVENHOULE-PC".
I then click OK and wait for it to connect.
Shortly afterwards, another dialog box pops up saying the following:
Your credentials did not work
The credentials that were used to connect to STEVENHOULE-PC did not work.
Please enter new credentials.

Evidently, the remote desktop is not working, and I do not know how to make
it work. Could someone please tell me what to do next on either computer in
order to make it work? I would very much appreciate it, as remote desktop is
the only to use the programs on my Vaio laptop that can't be installed on my
Gateway Tablet PC because they're only allowed to be installed on one
computer, such as Photoshop and Matlab.

If both computers have the same username and password, it should work. I
think the problem is "Neither primary users have passwords". You must have a
password to access remote computer for the security reason.

First your login account needs a password to sign in with Remote Desktop.
That is by design. You also need to be an administrator or be a member of
the Remote Desktop Users Group if your a standard user. Leave the domain
field blank/null/empty.

Secondly you normally can't browse for Remote Desktop enabled PCs in a home
environment, ie. a work group, unless you change a setting in the registry.
