I'm currently setting up my first "real" home network (my kid are virus
magnets) and, so far, everything is okay. I am; however, having a LOT of
problems trying to figure out if it is possible for my "main machine" to
filter all content for viruses, worms, etc. first before letting that info
go out to the other computers.

My setup is as follows:

3 machines (desktops) - two running XP Pro and 1 running XP home

Cable modem>router>"server" machine>hub to client machines

As I've noted, so far, everything is okay, except I can't figure out what I
need to do run virus protection off of just the "server" I use PC-cillin for
my virus scanner. I would also like to enable parental controls, etc. from
just my "server" so that I don't have to configure the other machines.

Thanks for your help!

What you seek is not sufficient protection. Adding virus and gateway
controls to the "main machine" will do little to nothing to protect the
other network clients.

What do I need to protect the other computers? Do I need to by antivirus
software for each client?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, putting anti-virus software on every computer will help avoid
infestation. Remember to also protect against spyware as well. Spybot,
Ad-Aware, and Pest Patrol are all great products.

Thanks, Michael,

I was afraid I would have to fork out more for antivirus software (I was
hoping I could filter everything through one machine - oh well).

I've used Spybot and Ad-Aware for a long time (they're great) - I'll check
ouit Pest Patrol too.

Thanks again for your help.

Jeff
