Backing Up Over the network

I've a small network using a hub and occassionally my second machine drops
out of the network. For example, both my machines are working ok over the
network and then I try to do a Norton Ghost backup of my first machine to the
second machine and part way through it loses connection.
Both machines run XP Professional fully updated.
Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Make sure power saving is turned off on the network adapter. Go to its
entry in Device Manager and double-click to get its Properties. Click
on the Power Management tab and uncheck "allow Windows to turn off this
device when not in use".

Malke,

Thanks for that but the backup still seems to stop half way through. Do you
have any other thoughts please?

How big is the backup and what file system is the 2nd machine using? It
sounds like you may be running into a file size limitation. If you are
backing up to a FAT32 file system the maximum size is 4 GB.

Thanks for your input Kerry. Both machines use NTSF with XP professional.
The backup drive on the second machine is driven through USB and is a Seaget
250GB. The backup has been split up into files of 500mb each. The total
backup is over 30GB.
Thanks for any further help.
Buster.

For further information, I have just tried the backup again and it failed
again but I noticed that the second receiving machine lost connectivity
through the network which caused the failure. So, it appears that its the
backup machine causing the problem due to lost of network connection. Does
this help?
Cheers
