Well having looked at AIM help, I can't see any settings for Outlook.

(e-mail address removed),

1. For IMAP service, which will "mirror" the folders on AIM Mail.

These instructions are for Outlook 2003, other versions of Outlook should be
similar.
Open Outlook> TOOLS> Email Accts> Add New Mail Acct> Select IMAP> Fill in
the appropriate information such as username and passwords.
Incoming server: imap.aim.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.aim.com

Under More Settings button> Advance Tab> change the Outgoing Server Port
Setting to 587 from 25, leave the Incoming Server Port as Outlook assigns
it.

A separate & new Personal Folder & *.PST file will be created for the acct.

2. For POP service, just downloading what is in the AIM inbox folder:
Open Outlook> TOOLS> Email Accts> Add New Mail Acct> Select POP> Fill in the
appropriate information such as username and passwords.
Incoming server: pop.aim.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.aim.com

Under More Settings button> Advance Tab> change the Outgoing Server Port
Setting to 587 from 25, leave the Incoming Server Port as Outlook assigns
it. Also you might want to set this acct to leave messages on the server.

FYI:

| C:\Documents and Settings\User>telnet pop.aim.con 110
| Connecting To pop.aim.con...Could not open connection to the host, on port 110:
| Connect failed
|
| C:\Documents and Settings\User>telnet pop.aim.con 995
| Connecting To pop.aim.con...Could not open connection to the host, on port 995:
| Connect failed

I was not aware that AIM Mail offered POP3 access. Telnet seems to agree
with my awareness.

Hello, I am complete clueless on trying to set up my email address via

I don't use MS Outlook. I have my AIM Mail set up in Windows Live Mail with
the following on the "Servers" tab:

Server Information------------------------------

My incoming mail server is a [IMAP ] server.

Incoming mail (IMAP): imap.aim.com
Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.aim.com

Incoming Mail Server----------------------------

(*)Log on using clear text authentication".

Outgoing Mail Server----------------------------

[x]My server requires authentication

And the following on the "Advanced" tab:

Server Port Numbers-----------------------------

Outgoing mail (SMTP): [587 ]
[ ]This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

Incoming mail (IMAP): [995 ]
[x]This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
Please email me at (e-mail address removed)

No.

N. Miller,
I use both the IMAP and POP setup for different AIM email accts. I run it
through a Spam Check program called POPFILE, sometimes there are some
connections issues, but they usually resolve themselves quickly. Here is
AIM/AOL Mail Help page to set it up in Outlook 2000. It works with Outlook
2003, there is just some different navigation routes through Outlook
versions in the email acct setup process:

Configure Your AOL or AIM E-mail Account in the Outlook Software Using IMAP
or POP3
The Outlook software must be correctly configured to be able to connect to
the AOL® or AIM® service.

To configure your AOL or AIM e-mail account in the Outlook 2000 software:
1. Launch the Outlook 2000 software.
2. Click the Tools menu, then click Accounts.
3. Click the Mail tab.
4. Click pop.aol.com or pop.aim.com to highlight it, then click the
Properties button.
5. Click the Servers tab.
6. In the Incoming Mail Server section, verify your AOL or AIM screen name
and password are entered.
7. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, click the My server requires
authentication box to place a check mark in it.
8. Click the Apply button.
9. Click the Advanced tab.
10. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): box, type 587.

Note: If using POP3, in the Delivery section, click the Leave a copy of each
message on the server box to place a check mark in it.

11. Click the Apply button.
12. Click the OK button to close the pop.aol.com Properties or pop.aim.com
Properties window.
13. Click the Close button.

No.

4. Click pop.aol.com or pop.aim.com to highlight it, then click the

Aside from your response to the wrong followup, I see I committed a typo in
my followup for the Telnet test. The TLD, '.con', doesn't exist!
