Setting up Language tools for spell check

I just installed a full copy of MSO 2003 and tried to get my languages set
for proofing/spell check.

I went to Tools\Language\Language set and added German, French and Spanish
with English as the default.

When I went to spell check, I selected German as the default and went to
spell check and got a message that I have to install that proofing tool, I am
not sure what I have to do for that.

However, when I selected French as the default, that was OK. Spell check
came up with the default dictionary being French.

When I selected Spanish as the default language, I tried spell check again
but it defaulted to the French dictionary. When I selectively changed this
to Spanish, the spell check was fine.

But most important, when I close out of word and then initialize it, the
selected languages, French, Spanish & German are no longer in the listing.

What is going on here as this should be something I can setup and have
automatic for whatever documnt I open

Thanks.

If you bought an English version of Office, it came with proofing tools for
English, French, and Spanish. It does not include proofing tools for German.
You can format the language of the text as German, but you can't perform a
spelling or grammar check in German without installing German proofing
tools. See

Thank you but more important is why my selected languages don't remain once I
close out of Word and why when I select Spanish as my default and then select
spell check it shows the French dictionary as the defaut.

Can't all this be setup at one time, i.e. English as the default language
and then the open to select Frech or Spanish as the default and be able to
run spell check without having to change the default spelling dictionary (and
German once we install that)

Thank you but this actually does not answer my question as I already did
everything stated in that link but when I close out of Word and go back in
the selected languages are no longer there, only the default English.

I need to be able to set the languages one time, i.e. English, French,
Italian, German and Spanish. When I close out of Word and go back I would
like to see those same selected languages.

I have seen this problem with Word 2000 as well.

Right now, when I set all of the above languages and then, select (for
instance) Spanish as the default and go to Spell check, everything works
fine. I can even change the default to French and the French dictionary is
there as the default to spell check. But when I close out of Word and go
back in later, all set languages but English are gone and I have to reselect
them.

There must be a way to get this set into the Word Template.
