setting up ftp server in dmz

Hi,

I want to setup an in house ftp server. I've setup IIS and ftp
service before for an internal network so I'm happy with that. What
I'm not sure is how to open up the firewall for port redirection or
putting the server in the dmz. I have a basic vigour2600plus router
that has port forwarding and dmz cababilities. I've read that port
directing would be good enough for this.

Also can you confirm that to get a url working i will need to get a
fixed IP then pay for someone to translate that to ftp://ftp.guy.com
or whatever I want.

I'd appreciate any tips on the above from those more experienced than
me.

You do not want to put your computer on the DMZ since it means leaving it
open with No protection on the Internet.
