i am trying to set up a home network to share files and printers. one
computer is a laptop, the other is a desktop; both running through a linksys
router. i created the network by using the windows wizard, and created a
disc to run in both computers. the desk will show the network when i got to
my network places and check workgroup computers. the laptop will not allow
me to access the workgroup. it tells me that the network is not accessable
and that i may not have permission to use this network resource. it tell me
to contact the administrator of the server, but doesnt give me a list of
servers. i also checked the user profile, and it is set up as the
administrator for the computer.

how do i fix this?

A possible problem is that the account you're using may NOT be set up for
administrator. (even tho it says it is.) It is more likely to be set up as a
"debugger"

Try the following, to make the account the HIGHEST ADMINISTRATION LEVEL.

Run> The type in the following "control userpasswords2" (without the " )

Then click on the user that you wish to change. (It probably says
debuggers....)

Click on properties > then group membership tab> then click the "other"
button, then in the drop down list change it to administrators.

Accept the changes, it may ask you to restart. It may not. (depending on if
you have service pack two installed or not).

I hope this sorts out your problem, sorry to waste your time if not.
