setting the time/updating the time

Hello veryone!

I have noticed my time (bottom right corner) is a couple of minutes
out and when I try to sync with the internet update options I get a
message telling me there is an error. time.nist.gov seems to be the
default option, it tells me the peer is unreachable. I am not sure
what that means. I have tried the other time servers via the drop down
box and tried all the options (time.windows.com,time-nw.nist.gov etc)
it then tells me "an error occurred while windows was synchronising
with ......."

Any answers will be gratefuly recieved. I do like to have any clocks
in my home correct!

Thanks - alanbriggs

Try again at another time...I see those
errors occasionally but apparently it's
just connection issues. I don't think there
is a fix for it.

I never had any difficulty in XP. What is it that is less
functional in Vista?

Seems about the same to me...I've had
the occasional error in Win XP also.

If time.nist.gov is unreachable it sounds like you have a networking problem
maybe caused by a firewall.

Can you ping time.nist.gov

Synchronising only works if the computer time is similar to the servers time
(allowing for UTC offsets)

Why don't you just right-click on your time, and manually change it to the
correct time?

Thanks everyone. What does"ping" mean? I am a bit fresh with
computers.
