Setting Default Template

I have created a template that I'm going to want to use for most of my Word
documents (they have a set header and footer). How can I change my default
new doc template from Normal to the one I created?

You don't. Don't even think of trying! You cannot replace Normal.dot (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm). What
you can do is (a) start Word using a specific template (see “WD: Word
Startup (Command-Line) Switches and Their Purpose†at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=210565) and (b) replace the New button on
the Standard toolbar with a New... button that will open the File New dialog
instead of creating a new blank document based on Normal.dot (this will
allow you to select your specific template or any other). With a little more
work, you can replace it with a button that opens a new document based on
your specific template.
