Setting default font in NORMAL.DOT on a corporate network

Snoey

Hi all,

I'm new to this group so just a quick introduction. My name is Chris
and I'm a sys admin at a community college in the south of The
Netherlands. I'm mainly responsible for deployment of software and
everything regarding Microsoft Word.

I've had the problem - which I'm posting about - for a few years now
and we just work with the standard Times New Roman. We'd like to change
it to Arial pt. 11 and I've succeeded in doing it by just changing the
NORMAL.DOT and deploying it to everyone each time they log in via
Novell Zenworks. The big disadvantage of this method is that everything
a person changes in their individual NORMAL.DOT - we use roaming
profiles - gets overwritten everytime the log in the next day (because
the NORMAL.DOT gets overwritten by Zenworks at login).

So my question is if there's a way to properly change a user's default
font without taking away their control over their own preferences
stored in the NORMAL.DOT.

Some info:

Client OS: Microsoft Windows XP
Office: Microsoft Office XP

Kind regards,

"Snoey"

Don't even try to mess with users' normal.dot templates. Provide document
templates set up as required via a common workgroup folder and instruct the
users to use these templates to create their documents.
