i have two hard drives
one 7gb that came stock with this old dell desktop and a new one was
just put in a WD 40gb.

the old one is full and keeps giving me the stupid you have no space
message and all the programs i want to install wont go to the new
drive.

anyways i want to get the new drive to be the default hard drive...

how do i do this???

anyone?

it seems like a pretty basic thing to do, i'm not that computer savy
but i can get around.

If you have formatted the new disk you can create a folder there called
"ProgramFiles2" and start installing programs there. When installing the
programs most will ask you where you want the program to be installed, when
that happens just point them to the new drive "ProgramFiles2" folder.

You can choose to move your "My Documents" folder to the new disk drive,
since this is where people save most of their "stuff" this can be a pretty
big folder and moving it could clear up some space on the 7Gb disk.

You will want to look for data on the 7Gb drive that you can get rid of -
turn off system restore, empty your recycle folder, see if Temp directories
are filled with junk, see how many service pack or download files are there,
etc.

You could also get a disk tool that would allow you to migrate the entire
7Gb disk to the 40Gb disk allowing you to boot from the 40Gb disk and use
the 7Gb as backup, if that is appealing let the list know.

Good luck.

Default drive as in C: If you want the 7gb data including xp,on the wdc, then
put wdc as slave on same ide chain, set both jumper pins accordingly, once in
xp,format wdc,either R.click in my computer,or type:diskmgmt.msc in
run,R.click
on the drive format.Once thru,go to run,type:XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r
Agree to all in the DOS window, once its thru, youre finished, shutdown, move wdc
to master. Also,D: being wdc,but if given diffrent letter, then use that
letter...

so do i do that with ghost or whatever the other one is i don't
remember the name...?

ok i got everything except for the hardware jargon slave? ide chain?
jumper pins?...

thanks though this sounds good
