Set up mail to use with newsgroups

I want to continue using Eudora as my default mail (the one I use for
personal mail), and I would like to use Yahoo to forward messages from
newsgroups. When I start to do that, Windows Mail starts the process to set
up a mail account. The Internet e-mail address that is shown automatically
is correct (my Yahoo mail). It asks for the mail server and SMTP server for
outgoing mail, which I assume would be the information provided by
suddenlink that I also use for Eudora. Then it asks for my e-mail username.
The name that appears automatically is actually the name that appears before
the @ sign in my Yahoo address. Is that correct? In other words, is that
what is meant by my e-mail username? The next box requests the password my
Internet service provider has given me. That sounds like the password for
Suddenlink, but I want to use Yahoo for this purpose. Which password should
I enter? - Suddenlink, or is Yahoo considered to be the service provider in
this instance. (In that case, I selected a password, not Yahoo.)

That's as far as I went, then I canceled the process. I am obviously
confused by a pretty simple process, but I want to make sure I don't create
a problem with Eudora and Yahoo, which are already working correctly. Can
someone help (and also with whatever steps may follow the place where I
ended the setup)?

Thanks

If you want to use Yahoo under Windows Mail, you either need to pay extra
or install YPOPs.

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html

Whichever account you use, give it the username and password for that
account.

For Suddenlink, see here:

The instructions are for Outlook Express, but should also work under
Windows Mail.

In that case, is there a way to forward messages using Windows Mail but keep
my somewhat-anonymized name (the one attached to this message)? In other
words, I don't want to use my Eudora account because that has my real name
attached and I do want to maintain Eudora as my default mail except for
newsgroups.

Many users, including me, use a modified return address in the newsgroups
so spammers will have trouble getting their real email address. If you send
the messages back using Eudora, though, I don't know if it supports using
such addresses. Some people even use completely false return addresses
in the newsgroups.

When I used Outlook Express, I was able to use the address you see attached
to this message. Readers could then reach me through Yahoo (not my
"regular" Eudora) by deleting the "extra" words. However, the links you
provided don't seem to provide that opportunity, even though it worked for
me just a week ago under XP. I do want people to be able to respond, but I
don't want that to occur in my Eudora account. Any other options under
Vista? (Yes, I realize that the links were to Yahoo and not MS, but I
somehow was able to use Yahoo previous to this. It was set up several years
ago and I did not think to check the settings before I reformatted my old
disk in preparation for the change to a new computer.)

If you are using Windows Mail as your newsgroup program, click on
Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties. Insert
the modified address in both the E-mail address: line and the Reply
address: line. Click on Apply, then OK, then Close.

If you are sending the replies from Eudora and then forwarding them
with Windows Mail, I don't know what to tell you.

Forward from what address to which other address?
Email messages and newsgroup posts are not the same thing.
What does email have to do with newsgroups?
You need to be a little clearer about exactly what it is that you
are trying to do.

I'm talking about forwarding an occasional newsgroup message or sending a
response to the author of a message (not a response to the entire group).

Thanks for your explanation. I think I understand the issue now.

If you want to forward (or reply to the author of) a newsgroup post,
then your default email account in Windows Mail must be one that has
the same 'From' address ([email protected])
if you want to maintain your pseudo-anonymity.
Most ISPs will allow you to use any 'From' address you want for email,
but a few are picky and will insist that the 'From' address be the valid
address assigned to you by that ISP. AOL is one of those picky ISPs.
Assuming your ISP does not object, you can set up a dummy account
in Windows Mail, where only the outgoing (SMTP) server is valid.
If you need more help with this, let us know.
