I was repairing Windows XP Professional and it has gone
through the process of updating the installations process
and then when the process reached the point of installing
the system, it has gotten into an endless loop. It says
that "set up is being restarted". Can someone please tell
me how to fix this problem.

Check your hard disk for Viruses

I have found that with Norton's Anti Virus: even when I had chosen to 'delete' any virus found, Norton chooses to place these into a Backup Folder or Quarantine Folder. Of course these folders should be opened by the user and files deleted on a regular basis

So if you haven't done that, during the installation process for Windows, some of these nasties are let out of jail only to stuff your installation process

SO take out your hard disk: connect it to a working PC with a good antivirus application. Scan, remove and then delete any nasties [virus or worm].
