set up an alarm clock for presenters

I have a conference to run with lots of presenters with strict time limits.
I want to set up an alarm clock countdown which starts when the presentation
opens (I have set up a master slide with hyperlinks to individual PPS) and
then starts flashing, or better still, also gives a beep when the 5 minutes
and 2 minutes to go threshold is reached.
It would be great if this was only on the screen for the presenter but
doesn't really matter if everyone could see it.
It would be even better if you could choose that it was only visible from
when the alarm point was reached

This would be better done outside of PowerPoint.

PPT code tends to like to run somewhat sequentially, so when you give it a
timing task, than ask it to do transitions and such, something is likely to
break. Instead, if you have to do it yourself, I would create a small VB6
app (or whatever coding language you are partial to) that pops up a box on
the laptop saying "Wrap it up" or such at the designated time.

There are already many products out there that specialize in speaker "times
up" lights and such.

.... just to show a few. Google is your friend :)

Why dont you just have their version just running in presenter view, that has
a timeclock running that only they can see.
