set up administrator logon with no password

Now the system won't accept no password as a legal logon.
I'm helping a friend with his laptop--he didn't have
network services so I loaded the software, set up automatic
logon using his name as the login, and didn't set up a
password. On boot up it posts his name, but won't accept
nothing as a password. since we can't get into the system,
we can't access his computer any more.

Suggestions?

Keep Shift during boot and you could change the login information. Do not
use Autologon in the future unless it's kiosk.
