Ps

hello,
I plan to set up two dns servers, (primary & Secondary)
plus a web server. How many external IPs do I need in order to function this
structure? (there is a router)
Any help much appreciated.

Two. The web server and a DNS server CAN be on
the same machine & same IP address.

You know you need two machines, right? It really doesn't
make any sense (and may not be really possible) to setup
two DNS servers on the same machine.

In fact, if you setup ONE DNS server with two (or more)
IP addresses it can service on all the IPs.

A secondary is a "helper/backup" server on another machine
for fault tolerance and/or performance.

Two, one for primary and one for the secondary. The web server can
share the IP of one.

Ask your ISP if they charge for a secondary DNS zone.
My ISP will host a secondary zone at no charge. You can also have another
DNS provider such as zodns.com to host a secondary zone for you.

There are any number of public DNS options as wel, where you don't
need to host your own DNS or pay for the service from your ISP. In my
case, the ISP charges $100 a month to host the DNS, though the extra
IP is mine for the asking. :)

$100 a month, Good Brucealmighty, I thought $100 for set up and $50 for
changes, was too high.

My current ISP charges nothing for the secondary either;
something for Primary/secondary (they have to do more
work.)

He said his charges $100 per month which is beyond
outrageous.
