want it to have a certain line color and thickness and maybe fill and other
features each time a add a new shape. Is there way to set the shape default,
there used be a way in the past.

I checked http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00245.htm. It confused me a bit. It seems
to be explaining two diffirent ways to make my template to be open each time
I open a New presentation, #1 method before 'In PowerPoint 2003 and later,'
in the middle of the sentences, and #2 method after that. Yes?

My PPT is 2003, and if I understood correctly I should save my template as
Blank.pot. Then, it comes out each time I open a New presentation (Ctrl+N, or
File>New). -- This is #1. Yes?

#2. Save my template as AnyName.pot. It would come out as one of 'Available
for use' templates. Yes?

Then, what if I don't want keep my template as a blank presentation
template? Could I bring the default blank template back? And, how could I
delete my templaet? In New Presentation dialogue box?

I could try experimenting but am hesitant to change default for one reason
or another. Let me know. thx

Steve says: > and the steps are different for each, so they're given
separately.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing.

I am saying two ways to make my own templates; #1 method: before the
pragraph "In PowerPoint 2003 and later, you can set a template to be used for
all new presentations." and #2 method: after that sentense. -- How to make my
own template? #1, save as Blank.pot, or #2, save as *.pot. -- That's the only
way I could read and understand this article. Wrong?

Steve says: > As long as its saved in the correct location, it should, yes.

What do you mean by that? This is exactly the problem I am having reading
that article!

According to the article, it doesn't seem to be any freedom on my side as to
where to save it. It clearly says, '4.Click Save. PowerPoint automatically
chooses the correct folder for you, so accept the default location.'

Thus, I questioned where and how I could retrieve the original default
template if indeed my own template (Blank.pot) replaced Original-default.pot.

All templates are supposed to appear when you do File>New>. Right? I don't
see any 'Delete' there either.

I said>#2. Save my template as AnyName.pot. It would come out as one of
'Available for use' templates. Yes?
Steve says>As long as its saved in the correct location, it should, yes.

AnyName.pot also goes to Template folders? No? Is there any freedom on my
side as to where to save? Yes?

I said> Then, what if I don't want keep my template as a blank presentatio
template? Could I bring the default blank template back?
Steve says>> Follow the same instructions for choosing a template to use for
all new presentations but choose "Default Design.pot"

In the first place, where is "Default Design.pot"? I don't see anything by
that name any place I visited even though I am sure there are more places I
don't know. So, where is it?

I said> And, how could I delete my templaet? In New Presentation dialogue box?
Steve say> Note where you saved it; use Windows Explorer to navigate there
and delete it or move it to another folder.

I guess I already asked for this. Thx for your help.

You've changed the questions partway through the exchange.

You asked how to save a default shape. Lucy gave you that information.

She also gave you a link to saving a default template.

You are now asking about making your own templates. That is a different
thing altogether.

The FAQ you are reading is about how to save a template as your default
template so that it is the one that appears whenever you hit File | New.

To save a default template, you need two things: 1) for the template to be
named blank.POT and 2) for the template to be saved in the correct place.

So yes, follow the steps listed in the FAQ:

1. Choose File, Save As
2. Pick Design Template (*.pot) from the Save As Type list box
3. Give the new template a name:
. If you use PowerPoint 97 or 2000, name it Blank Presentation.pot
. If you use Mac PowerPoint 2004 (and probably earlier versions), name
it Blank presentation
. If you use PowerPoint 2002 (X) or 2003, name it Blank.pot
. If you use PowerPoint 2007, name it Blank.POTX
4. Click Save. PowerPoint automatically chooses the correct folder for you,
so accept the default location.

When you select POT from the Save as Type list box, PPT takes you to the
correct folder to save your template. This differs based on your operating
system and version of Office.

And you are correct, there is no freedom in choosing the folder. It must be
in the correct folder and be named BLANK, otherwise PPT won't recognize it
as your blank template. So just follow the steps.
