Set policies to prevent installation

I have a PC with Windows 2000 Pro and I had to reload it after a blue screen
crash the other day. After I loaded it I am having problems installing some
of the software. When The Installer package starts it comes up with the
message:
"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"

I am not on a network and I am logged in as administrator to be sure I have
full rights for installations. I was able to load Office 2000 but I get
that message when I try to load Publisher or McAfee virus software. Someone
said it has to do with MSI publishing
Thanks

Try using gpedit.msc to open local Group Policy. Then navigate to computer
configuration/administrative templates/Windows components/Windows installer and make
sure that "disable Windows installer" is disabled. If that does not help try enabling
"always install with elevated privileges" there and in the same place under user
configuration. That is not something I normally recommend as it can give normal users
the ability to install .msi packages, but it sounds like that may not be a concern to
you in your situation. If none of that works look in user configuration/administrator
templates/ system to make sure that those programs are not listed in the disallowed
Windows applications nor is the run only these Windows applications setting
enabled/populated unless you want it to be. --- Steve
